Sailing into our Second Week!

Week of September 6th

Room 22:

We have had such a great first week settling into our daily routines and getting a chance to meet all of our new second grade friends. We took time to establish our class rules (Be Ready, Be Respectful, and Be Responsible) as well as start to set the basis for independent reading and math centers. It is going to be a fabulous year of learning!

Thanks so much to the parents who sent back in all their required forms and kept the school informed of any dismissal changes during the first week. I am posting pictures of our back to school night presentation at the bottom of this post to serve as a reference for parents who were unable to attend.

Please continue to send in a note to let the front office and myself know if you are changing the way your child goes home, such as going home with a friend or going home as a car rider for a day.

Looking Ahead:

Math- Next week, students will dive into our study of ordinal numbers. Students will be identifying and sequencing objects using ordinal numbers. We will then work on applying knowledge of odd and even numbers up to 120.

Content- Students will begin experiencing the scientific process through STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). Be on the lookout for pictures of our successful designs!

Reading- We are continuing to build up our reading stamina within the classroom. Next week, we will continue to focus on finding good fit books and developing our daily reading routines within the classroom.

Word Study- Students will begin word study this week. Students will receive a new set of words to practice each week. The students will complete their word study activities in their word work journal. We will practice each of these activities in school.
