Metamorphosis Memories

Week of May 15th

Room 22

This week was a great week filled with excitement about our farm field trip! There were lots of opportunities to see butterflies, frogs, and pets at the petting zoo. We even got to create food webs and learn more detailed information about life cycles. To go along with our life cycle unit, we have been observing our own class butterflies as they grow and change. This week, the caterpillars moved into the chrysalis stage. I hope we will have butterflies this week! (Check out our photo slideshow to see pictures from our field trip!)

In math, we have started measuring things around us using rulers. We will continue to discuss measuring length and height using inches, feet, and yards this week. In social studies, we will jumpstart our knowledge of economics. Students will be applying vocabulary to create their own 2nd grade market day.

I hope all the moms are enjoying a very happy mother's day! Students loved created cards at our writing center for you this week. In writing, we will be using our retelling skills to help us describe the events in books that we have read. We will begin some of our end of the year reading assessments that focus on being "Super Readers". Students will be using fluency, predicting, retelling, and comprehension skills to describe what they have read.

*Mr. Lyons has sent out an email regarding student placement for next year. Please submit that form and any recommendations for next year by the end of the weekend.

Ways to extend learning at home:

*Ask your child to use a ruler or estimation to measure about how long things are in your own home *Ask your child to describe the important event in the stories they read at home

*Ask your child to look for advertisements around your home that relate to stores serving as producers as we jump start our economics unit
