Economics and More

Week of May 22th

Room 22

This month, students have been completing some of our end of the year reading assessments. It is so great to get a chance to meet with each student and see how much progress they have made in reading! Each student has worked hard to develop more confidence in their reading fluency and is continuing to improve their vocabulary and decoding skills!

In social studies, students are eagerly completing their upcoming economics project! Students received a paper last week describing the main idea of the project, but you can read the specifics again below! The students are working in small groups to create a paper product they can sell to consumers (other 2nd grade students). This week we will complete our products, create advertisements to entice consumers, and vote on a charity to donate funds to). This will be a great way to practice money skills and economic skills at the same time!

Please send in $2.00 in change with your child so we can have a successful trade day! We will also be testing on economics vocabulary by the end of the week. The study guide went home last week, please let me know if you need an additional copy.

In math, we will move on to identifing the distance inside and around objects using area and perimeter. This is a great time to reinforce measuring skills at home! Students have practiced measuring in inches, feet, centimeters, and yards.

As the end of the year approaches, you will hear more about our 2nd grade end of the year party. Last week the link was sent out for donations. There was also a paper sent home on Thursday describing the volunteer opportunities. If you are able to help our during our grade level wide party please let us know! The link is listed below if you are still interested in donating:

Ways to extend learning at home:

*Ask your child to use a ruler or estimation to measure about how tall things are in your own home *Ask your child to describe the message or lesson the characters learn in the story

*Ask your child to look for advertisements around your home that relate to stores serving as producers as we jump start our economics unit
