Butterflies, Field Trips and, and Deer Oh My!

Week of May 8th

Room 22

Our field trip is almost here! Students have been immersed in learning about different life cycles over the past week. We will learn and see examples of various life cycles on our field trip to Ballentine Farm on Tuesday May 9th! There are few important things to ensure that your child has the most enjoyable experience on our upcoming field trip. Please see the paper sent home in each student's green folder on Friday or check out the pictured list below!

In science, we will continue to learn about animal life cycles! Our class pets, or caterpillars, are growing bigger and bigger each day. We spent time observing them this week and can't wait to see them get ready to change into butterflies very soon! As we watch them go through their life cycle, we will document our learning in our life cycle journal. In math, we will start our measurement unit! Students will be learning about measuring length using various units.

In writing, we will begin to develop and refine our opinion letter writing skills. We will be describing and persuading others to read our favorite books through letters. This week, we read a few different versions of the classic 3 little pigs story and had to use opinion writing to explain some of our favorite versions of these stories.

Ways to extend learning at home:

*Ask your child to look for measuring tools around the house to jump start their knowledge of measuring tools *Ask your child to describe the characters in the stories they read at home

*Ask your child to describe the difference between the fawn and the doe stage of the deer life cycle
