Sailing into our Third Week!
Week of September 12th
Room 22
This week, students did a great job working with partners during our math work stations and our STEM activities. Students were given the design challenge of making a chain using only one piece of paper and glue. Our winning paper chain ended up being on 2 yards long! Each team had a very unique approach to making their own paper chain, I am so excited to see the way all of these amazing and creative thinkers will grow throughout the year!
Students also learned new routines with their first week of word study activities! We worked hard to practice this routine so we will be able to use it throughout the year. Please make sure your child completes their assigned word study activity each night and brings their green FISH folder, agenda, and word study journal to school each day so they are ready to learn.
In reading, students have been working on finding good fit books- books that they are able to read independently at their own level. This is a very important skills that we use everyday in our literacy or Daily 5 centers.
Lastly, on Friday students brought home a blue paper regarding "Fabulous Friday". Please review this paper and return the bottom portion back to school so your child can participate next week.
*Please continue to use this link if you still need to sign up for a parent-teacher conference time: Fall Conference.
Ways to extend learning at home:
*Ask your child to identify the steps of brushing their teeth or other daily routines using ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, etc.)
*Have your child explain how they find a good fit book.
*Ask your child to share how we use playing cards to practice addition facts
Looking Ahead
Math- We will continue our study of ordinal numbers and begin practicing skip counting and even/odd numbers.
Content- Next week the students will finish up a STEM activity where we use knowledge of shapes and weight to create a foil boat. We will then begin our study of Famous Americans and Citizenship.
