Sailing into our Fifth Week!

Week of September 26th

Room 22

Wow, Monday will be our 20th day of second grade! It is so exciting to see how far our class has already come in these four weeks. On Friday, we were reflective and thought about what we have learned so far and discussed some things that we have done well and what we still need to work on. I am very excited that so many students already see themselves as strong readers and writers! It was also very inspiring to see students be honest and create authentic goals for themselves to work on over the next few weeks. This mindset of reflection and focusing on ways we can grow will help us be better learners each and every day!

Ways to extend learning at home:

*Ask your child to look for patterns around your house and send me pictures of these patterns through email, we would love to highlight some of these patterns during our daily morning meeting!

*Have your child create predictions as they read a book this weekend

*Ask your child to explain what it means to write a small moment story

Looking Ahead

Math- Next week, will focus on math study on patterns. We will be looking for and creating repeating and growing patterns.

Content- We will be continuing our study of Famous Americans. One of the highlights of next week will be Susan B. Anthony.

Reading- We will refine how to create thoughtful predictions as we read. You can support this at home by having your child stop as they are reading and ask your child to create a prediction about what they think will happen next in the story.

Writing- Students will continue to write about their own experiences or small moments. We will focus on ways to help add detail and bring our stories to life!
