Short Weeks in January
Week of January 17th
Room 22
This week and next week are both 4 day weeks. Due to the changes in our schedule, we will be practicing a set of word study words across these 2 weeks. We will be testing students on these words at the end of the quarter (January 26th). Please check the homework page carefully to make sure your child is following our adjusted homework schedule for these two weeks.
In science, we will be starting our study of magnets! This is a very hands on unit that involves lots of STEM and science experiments.
In math, we will extend our learning on tally marks and graphs to discuss probability. We will start with sharing vocabulary words such as likely, impossible, and certain.
In reading and writing, we are focusing on information texts. We have been reading nonfiction texts and writing like scientists! This week we change one part of our experiment in small groups. This type of writing will help us write our own informational texts later this month.
In the new year, students will begin to start writing their own homework in their agenda each day. I will continue to post a copy of the homework page here just in case.
Ways to extend learning at home:
*Ask your child to use tally marks to collect data and create their own graphs. At home, students could ask people to share their favorite color and use this information to create their own bar graph *Ask your child to read nonfiction text of their choice and have them identify 2 nonfiction text features (bold words, headings, table of contents)
*Look for magnets around your house, See if students can find things that attract or stick to magnets.
