End of the 2nd Quarter

Week of January 23rd

Room 22

This week is already the mid-way point of 2nd grade. Last week we took some time in class to set goals for the remainder of the year; many students set great goals such as always try our best or to take our time.

In science, we will be finishing our study of magnets! This week we are working on understanding vocabulary such as attract, repel, and poles. Students have a study guide in their green folder for their test on Thursday. (Jan. 26th)

In math, we will continue to discuss probability. We will continue to focus on vocabulary words such as likely, impossible, and certain.

In reading and writing, we are focusing on information texts. We have been reading nonfiction texts and writing like scientists! This week we change one part of our experiment in small groups. This type of writing will help us write our own informational texts later this month.

Please continue to check the attached homework page carefully to make sure your child is following our adjusted homework schedule for the short week.

Ways to extend learning at home:

*Ask your child to think of ways to use the words impossible and certain (ex: it is impossible to see a flying cat, it is certain that Halloween is on October 31st) *Ask your child to read nonfiction text of their choice and have them identify 2 facts they learned from the story (we have been doing this in our room with penguin texts!)

*Ask your child to show what attract and repel look like with their hands. We have practiced these motions in class!
