3rd Quarter and Upcoming Assessments
Week of February 6th
Room 22
What a week in 2nd grade! We have our upcoming 2nd grade musical on Wednesday and the Cogat test starts on Thursday. The night performance of the musical will start at 6:30 pm; students may enter the building at 6:10 pm. The Cogat will be completed on the computers. Our class will be taking the Cogat on Thursday Feb. 9th, Friday Feb 10th, and Monday Feb. 13th at 8:30 AM each morning. Please try to ensure that students arrives to school on time with a good night's rest and a healthy breakfast on each of these days.
*Because the students have such a busy week, we will just be reading for homework each night; encourage students to verbal retell the story after they finish reading.
In science, we will be wrapping up our study of seasonal change and learning about fossils! Students will get the chance to create "shell fossils" and we will share our final projects. Students have worked hard throughout the week to research an animal that migrates, hibernates, adapts, or camouflages. Please review the seasonal change study guide by Friday.
In math, we have started telling time. We began by discussing the different types of clocks and telling time to the nearest half hour. We will continue to practice these skills this week.
In reading, we will continue to focus on reading books for deeper understanding. We will think about important parts of the students and the lessons authors are teaching us through these texts.
In writing, we will be apply our knowledge from STEM and lab reports to create informational how to books about something that each student is an expert on! Today we started brainstorming our big ideas.
Ways to extend learning at home:
*Ask your child to show times to the nearest thirty minutes or discuss activities that they do throughout their day using times *Ask your child to read fictional stories and identify the author's message or the lesson of the story
*Ask your child to share about the animal they researched and 2 things they learned about that animal in the different seasons.
