President's Day Week
Week of February 21st
Room 22
Last week was a week of Valentine STEM and exploring Ancient China! Check our pictures on our class website or twitter to see some of the projects in action. We used iPads to access online encyclopedias and explore ancient Chinese culture.
In social studies, we are continuing our study of Ancient Civilizations. We will be completing a "passport" as we study China and Egypt over the next few weeks. Last week, students received a paper about China Centers on Thursday. This is a time for students to learn about the Chinese culture through a variety of different activities.
*We will be completing China Centers from 8:15 to 10:30 on Thursday February 23rd. A paper went home on Friday asking for volunteers. If you are available to volunteer please email me to express your interest or return the form in your child's green folder.
In math, we will review telling time to the nearest five minutes but we are working on identify time with words. We will be working on also identifying time to the quarter hour (ex: quarter past, half past, quarter till). Please continue to practice these skills at home with your child.
In reading, we will continue to focus on reading books for deeper understanding. We will think about important parts of the students and the lessons authors are teaching us through these texts. We will also use nonfiction skills to help us research Ancient China.
In writing, we will continue to draft our personal information books. The students each choose their own topic to write about. The students will explain their knowledge with diagrams and written summaries.
Be on the lookout for an email regarding Read Across America week!
Ways to extend learning at home:
*Ask your child to show times to the nearest five minutes in digital and analog clock format. Ask students to tell time to the quarter hour (ex: 9:15 could also be called a quarter past 9) *Ask your child to read fictional stories and retell 4 events in the story
*Ask your child to share one thing they learned about the Great Wall of China
