Read Across America
Week of February 2th
Room 22
Be on the look out for our final products of our Ancient Chinese Invention project. The students researched different Chinese inventions, described the invention, and explain why it is important today. The students then chose to submit their final product as a book or through a video.
In social studies, we are continuing our study of Ancient Civilizations. This week we have been comparing China and Egypt. Tomorrow we will be taking a "virtual field trip" the look at the pyramids of Egypt.
In math, we will start learning about geometric shapes. The students used their knowledge of 2D shapes to to create their own Dr. Seuss hat as we celebrate Read Across America Week. It has been great to see students fun participation in our Dr. Seuss spirit week.
In reading, we are celebrating Read Across American Week and have been reading Dr. Seuss books to identify poetry elements. We have been looking for elements such as rhyme, alliteration, and metaphors. We will begin writing our own poems next week!
As we begin our study of reading and writing poetry, students will be creating a class poetry book. Please be on the lookout for a pink handout this week that explains our 2nd grade poetry book and how you can order your own copy! We will be using the money to collect book donations for our sister school.
Ways to extend learning at home:
*Ask your child to look for 2D shapes around their house (such as rectangle, triangles, and squares) *Ask your child to read fictional stories and retell 4 events in the story
*Ask your child to share one thing they learned about Ancient Egypt
