Week of May 1st
Room 22
We had a great last week of April filled with poetry celebrations and weather wonderings. I cannot believe it is already May! As the end of the year approaches, we will continue to learn some new content but also get ready for 3rd grade. This week, we are beginning our study of life cycles. Students will connect their knowledge of animal life cycles and food chains to our upcoming field trip to Ballentine Farm. Be on the lookout for an email this week about chaperones. There are still a few parents who have not turned in their child's permission slip. Although we just went on a field trip, we need a separate form completed so your child can attend this field trip. Please send in your child's form and a check so your child can attend the field trip next Tuesday.
In math, we will begin to count sets of coins Students will be responsible for counting on; ask your child to show you what counting on means. If you child brings home a set of coins this week, please review counting coins with them this week.
In writing, we will begin to develop and refine our opinion letter writing skills. We will be describing and persuading others to read our favorite books through letters. Last week we practiced identifying our favorite characters from books such as The Day the Crayons Quit!
Ways to extend learning at home:
*Ask your child to count sets of mixed coins at home *Ask your child to describe the characters in the stories they read at home
*Ask your child to identify different animals where the baby animals look like the parent
